Why desk tools go unused
Desk booking software is a real search (US demand is in the same band as hot desk booking and office hoteling software). The failure is not always the vendor. It is a floor that does not match the roster.
If you have 40 people in two days a week and 12 desks, no calendar widget will save Tuesday. People stop booking. They Slack “is anyone using 4B.” That is desk-booking theater.
Ratio before software
Count your own headcount, in-office days, and a target occupancy. That gives peak concurrent seats and a desk count. Copying a campus in another city is how you get a ghost floor or a fight at 9:10 a.m.

Names and days, not sensors
Occupancy sensors can tell you a chair was warm. They cannot tell you who needed it. A pulse of empty-seat heat maps is not a booking policy.
